New Teaching Degree Coming to the North West College
North Battleford, SK — North West College and the University of Regina have partnered to deliver the Bachelor of Education program, expanding access to teacher education in Saskatchewan's northwest. This partnership responds to growing demand for qualified educators in rural and Indigenous communities, removing barriers to post-secondary education. The program emphasizes rural and remote learner experiences, ensuring graduates are classroom-ready, community-connected, and culturally responsive.
“This partnership is a significant milestone for education in northwest Saskatchewan. By delivering the full Bachelor of Education program locally - and offering a block transfer option for eligible students – North West College is removing barriers and creating clear career pathways into teaching. This program responds directly to the growing demand for educators in our region and ensures our communities are served by teachers who are trained close to home.” said Dr. Eli Ahlquist, President & CEO of North West College.
“The expansion of our continuing partnerships with North West College demonstrates how effective collaboration can improve access to education across the province. Delivering the Bachelor of Education program in the region is another successful example of how the University of Regina and North West College are working together to ensure that future teachers can prepare for their careers close to their home communities and in the most meaningful way possible,” said Dr. Jeff Keshen, President of the University of Regina.
“This partnership represents more than a program - it’s an investment in communities, classrooms, and the next generation of educators,” said representatives from both institutions.
The Bachelor of Education program will launch in September of 2026, opening new pathways for students who are passionate about teaching and committed to making a difference where it matters most.
Interested students are encouraged to contact North West College for updates on program details, admissions requirements, enrollment timelines, and to attend information sessions on the degree program.
